General Dynamics Corp. won a $10 million Navy contract to supply seven photonics mast workstations for Virginia-class submarines.

The workstations control and display the imaging sensor data from the photonics mast system. The photonics mast is an electronic imaging sensor set contained on a mast that does not penetrate the submarine hull as do conventional periscopes.

General Dynamics' Advanced Information Systems unit won the contract, the Falls Church, Va., company said.

The contract includes engineering services supporting the development, field maintenance and modification of the photonics mast workstations so they can be integrated photonics mast system.

Work will be performed in Fairfax, Va., and is expected to be completed by Aug. 2011.

General Dynamics is ranked No. 6 on the Washington Technology Top 100 list of government IT contractors.
