Unisys deploys FDA animal drug approval system

Unisys Corp. has installed a Web-based notification system that lets the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine receive and process applications to approve new drugs for animals, the company announced this week.

The Blue Bell, Pa., company implemented the system in less than three months through a $600,000 contract awarded in March. The system manages user fees that companies pay to have drug applications reviewed.

The new system integrates and automates activities such as processing customer notifications and accompanying fees, and is expected to reduce greatly the time it takes to initiate a drug review, the company said.

The user-fee system is part of FDA's strategic initiative to modernize its financial systems, which includes conversion to Oracle Federal Financials.

Unisys has more than 37,000 employees and annual sales of $5.9 billion. The company ranks No. 28 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
