Amit Yoran, director of the Homeland Security Department's National Cyber Security Division, submitted his resignation yesterday. Yoran, who was appointed to the position in September 2003, resigns amid questions over whether his office has enough authority to assure the security of the nation's networks.Last week, congress debated a provision in the intelligence reform bill that would have moved responsibility for cybersecurity from DHS to the Office of Management and Budget. The language was later removed from the bill.Olga Grkavac, senior vice president of the Information Technology Association of America, confirmed that Yoran had submitted his resignation but declined to comment because DHS is asking him to reconsider his decision. DHS officials did not return calls asking for comment.
