Grants.gov goes to fee-for-service

Grants.gov will become the first e-government project led by the Office of Management and Budget to move to a fee-for-service model to support its operation and maintenance, OMB officials said June 18.

OMB provided agencies with the funding algorithm to support the initiative in 2005 and 2006. The departments of Agriculture, Education, Health and Human Services, Labor and Transportation will pay $754,467 a year, for example, because they are the largest grants-making agencies.

Grants.gov, which allows people and organizations to find and apply for federal grants online , launched in December. In its first six months, more than 3,000 grant announcements were posted, and more than 340 grant applications were submitted electronically.
