The Defense Department wants to change its Pilot Mentor-Protégé program so that the director of small and disadvantaged business utilization at each military department and agency can approve mentor firms and mentor-protégé agreements.

The Defense Department proposed the change May 13 in the Federal Register. Comments on the rule change are due by July 12 at http://emissary.acq.osd.mil/dar/ dfars.nsf/pubcomm or via e-mail to dfars@osd.mil. DFARS Case 2003-D013 should be cited in the subject line of

e-mailed comments.

The director of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Small and Disadvantage Business Utilization will keep the policy and oversight role for the program, according to the proposed rule.
