CSC wins task order for IRS CADE system

Computer Sciences Corp. won a $27 million task order from the Internal Revenue Service to modify the agency's Customer Account Data Engine IT component to handle new tax laws, the company said today.

CADE is the centerpiece of the IRS' new IT system that will replace its taxpayer records master file containing all individual taxpayers' account records. The new system's first release, which supports 1040EZ tax filers, is being piloted and is scheduled for delivery in September.

The contract to modernize the IRS's outdated IT systems is worth an estimated $5 billion-$7 billion. The El Segundo, Calif., systems integrator received the contract in 1998, but has come under fire from the IRS for missing deadlines and accumulating huge cost overruns.

CSC is No. 3 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal contractors, ranked according to their prime IT contracting revenue. The company had revenue of $11.3 billion in 2003.
