Northrop Grumman Corp. will plan, design and implement Grants.gov, a one-stop Web portal for applicants applying for grants from some 900 participating federal programs.

The contract from the Health and Human Services Department could be worth $7 million over the next five years. The first phase of the project should be complete in October.

Grants.gov will standardize the application process by providing a common point for submitting applications electronically to federal grant-making agencies. Northrop Grumman Information Technology, the unit of the Los Angeles-based company that will develop the site, also will offer help to agencies in integrating individual grants management systems with Grants.gov.

"Our solution enables common data standards and encourages computer-to-computer interchange while eliminating costs associated with redundant data," said Jim Perriello, president of government solutions, Northrop Grumman IT.

Northrop Grumman is teaming with AT&T Corp.'s government solutions business in Vienna, Va., and Ekagra Software Technologies of Centreville, Va.
