Indianapolis re-ups NIC for portal management

National Information Consortium Inc. has won a three-year contract extension with Indianapolis and Marion County in Indiana to manage the jurisdiction's e-government portal, the company announced Jan. 6.

The portal, which serves the Indianapolis metropolitan area, is managed by CivicNet, a wholly owned subsidiary of NIC of Overland Park, Kan. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

CivicNet offers 27 interactive government services for business and citizens through the portal, including building permits, police and criminal court record requests, traffic and parking ticket payments and property records inquiries.

Last year the company processed more than 200,000 transactions and collected more than $1 million in city and county fees and fines through the portal.

CivicNet has 1,800 subscribers, mostly businesses, that receive a monthly invoice for any online city or county services they use. In addition, thousands of citizens have conducted transaction through CivicNet using a credit card, according to NIC.

NIC manages 17 state and nine local e-government portals, said Chris Neff, a company spokesman. The company has 288 employees and annual revenue of $39.2 million, he said.
