Flyzik will help establish a consulting firm

With retirement from the federal government less than a week away, James Flyzik, senior adviser to White House Office of Homeland Security director Tom Ridge, today announced he would join two other former government-IT market veterans to form a consulting firm.

Flyzik, who revealed his decision at a retirement luncheon sponsored by the Industry Advisory Council in Washington, will team with Robert Guerra and Phil Kiviat to help government vendors understand agency business processes and which technologies can play a role in moving an agency forward. Flyzik said the company's name is Guerra, Kiviat & Flyzik.

The trio will get underway immediately, Flyzik said; he does not want to waste any time in putting his homeland security knowledge to work while the new department is being formed. Flyzik's last day with the federal government is Dec. 17.

"This was the best way for me to stay involved in the community," Flyzik told the audience of about 100. "My goal, my passion is to continue to work in homeland security areas, to make e-government even more of a reality and to keep the CIO Council moving forward."

Flyzik worked 28 years in the federal government, including stints as Treasury Department CIO, vice chairman of the CIO Council and in IT management positions with the Secret Service.

Guerra and Kiviat both have run their own consulting companies for years and worked as executives in private industry before going out on their own. The two work with 20 large and small businesses.
