Army telecom deal goes to General Dynamics

General Dynamics Corp. announced Aug. 21 that the Army has awarded its Network Systems four delivery orders worth a combined $15.2 million to upgrade and expand the telecommunications infrastructure at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and eight installations in Germany, Japan and South Korea. The orders were issued under the Army's Digital Switch Systems Modernization Program.General Dynamics of Falls Church, Va., will modernize the data network and supporting infrastructure at each location. It also will install gigabit Ethernet technology for the data network and an enhanced outside cable plant to serve future telecommunications needs.The awards for Fort Leonard Wood and Camp Zama, Japan, include developing engineering design plans for the posts' infrastructure and data network upgrades. The other awards ? one for three posts near Seoul, South Korea, and one for four posts in Germany ? consist of implementing engineering designs developed by the Army's Information Systems Engineering Command."These have been vigorous and technically challenging competitions, and these awards reflect our strong corporate commitment to serving Army telecommunications needs worldwide," said Dan Allen, a vice president and general manager for General Dynamics Network Systems.
