BTG Plugs Into Air Force Electronics Deal

BTG Inc. has won a seven-year, $60 million contract with the Air Force Electronic Systems Center to develop an integrated broadcast service for the military, the company said May 14.

Fairfax, Va.-based BTG will serve as the prime for the IBS project and oversee the work of nine subcontractors.

BTG competed for this phase of the contract against Lockheed Martin Corp. of Bethesda, Md., and TRW Corp. of Cleveland. The three companies each held six-month contracts last year for the initial phase of the program, which was focused on definition and risk reduction.

The primary mission of the service is to distribute data to military commanders about allied and enemy troop movements, aircraft and ships, and geographic data and weapons.

The IBS will gather the data from multiple sensors, integrate it into a coherent picture and deliver it to the user in a standard message format over secure worldwide communications networks.

The information management applications that BTG will use on the project can be transferred to BTG's current and potential contracts in the government and private sector, said Bob Osterloh, senior vice president and general manager of BTG's defense intelligence systems business unit.

BTG has more than 1,400 employees and had sales of $249 million in fiscal 2000, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
