AMS Hires Washington State CIO Kolodney

American Management Systems Inc. has hired Steve Kolodney, chief information officer for the state of Washington, to head up the company's e-government initiatives, the company announced May 7.

Kolodney, who became the director of Washington's Department of Information Services in 1995 and served on the governor's cabinet, was responsible for information technology policy and for oversight of the state's information technology resources. Under his direction, Washington has become known as an e-government innovator among the states.

AMS intends to tap into Kolodney's 30 years of state government experience for "insight to our clients' worlds, goals and desires," said Donna Morea, executive vice president and general manager of AMS' state and local solutions group.

AMS of Fairfax, Va., ranks as one of the top systems integrators to state and local governments, providing services in such areas as e-procurement, e-government applications, finance and administration, and tax and revenue systems. The company had more than $300 million in state and local government revenue, placing it among the top 10 systems integrators in this market.

In 2000, the company reported earnings of $43.8 million on revenue of $1.28 billion. About half the revenue came from the company's public sector business.
