Transportation Command looks to up its game

The command will lean on a General Services Administration vehicle to bring in a contractor for help in strategic planning.
With responsibility for moving materials all over the world for the U.S. military, Transportation Command has to have its timing down pat with speed and efficiency.
Transcom is moving forward with a contract to bring in industry support for strategic planning and the development of documents such as guidance.
A request for information was released in August, but Transcom and the General Services Administration have announced that a request for quotations has gone out on GSA's eBuy platform.
The command is using GSA's OASIS professional services vehicle to award the contract. Companies with positions on Pool 1 Unrestricted under OASIS are eligible to respond.
The request for information lays out five task areas where the command wants support:
- Contract level and task order management
- Strategy support
- Strategic engagement
- Concepts support
- Wargaming
The existing contract is held by LMI is worth $8.4 million. Transcom also awarded that as a task order under the OASIS vehicle.
It is not clear whether the scope of the recompete is larger than the current contract, but regardless of size this is the kind of task order that puts a company in good position for other work.
U.S. Transportation Command has several component commands with these being the largest – Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Military Sealift Command and Air Mobility Command. There also is the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command.
Proposals are due March 13 with an award expected by June 1.
