The global construction giant's nuclear, security and environmental global business unit houses all of its U.S. and international public sector work.
Bechtel has promoted a new president for its government-facing business unit in Dena Volovar, a 26-year company veteran who most recently led the company’s line of environmental and security work.
Volovar succeeds John Howanitz, who has led the unit during the past four years. He will retire in April after a 42-year career at Bechtel, the company said Tuesday.
Bechtel’s nuclear, security and environmental global business unit also called NS&E houses all of its government contracts, including those with U.S. and allied agencies.
Reston, Virginia-headquartered Bechtel has recorded approximately $2.8 billion in unclassified prime revenue over the trailing 12 months. DOD represents about 90% of those obligations and NASA the remaining 10%, according to USASpending.gov data.
Hanowitz’s tenure as leader of Bechtel’s government unit included the U.S. Army’s chemical weapons destruction program, and the first creation of glass from nuclear waste at the Hanford site in Washington state.
Volovar most recently worked as an executive vice president with responsibility for Bechtel’s business at the Energy Department.
