Bob Coleman takes the helm at Nightwing less than a year after its private equity owner acquired the business from RTX.

Nightwing, a cybersecurity company that was formerly part of RTX, has hired a new chief executive in the noted federal market veteran and technology entrepreneur Bob Coleman.

A board of directors member, Coleman takes up the CEO role less than a year after the business was acquired by global investment giant Blackstone for approximately $1.3 billion.

Nightwing said Wednesday that Coleman succeeds John DeSimone, who led the business for seven years including when it was part of RTX.

As Nightwing’s CEO, Coleman now leads a roughly 2,200-employee company that concentrates on cyber protection and other security offerings for government agencies and organizations in highly-regulated sectors.

Dulles, Virginia-headquartered Nightwing became an independent entity in April and also touts data intelligence, software modernization and workforce development as among its core technical focus areas.

Coleman founded and led Six3 Systems from its 2009 inception until 2013, when CACI International acquired that defense technology company for approximately $820 million. That represented CACI’s largest-ever acquisition at the time.

He also founded and led Integrated Data Systems from its 1990 launch until 2003, when ManTech acquired that software development specialist for around $63 million. Post-close, he worked as president and chief operating officer at ManTech until his departure to start Six3.
