QinetiQ's US arm appoints Vecchiolla as CEO
Tom Vecchiolla now will lead the subsidiary's work to execute the strategy of its parent company that centers around the AUKUS security partnership.
QinetiQ’s U.S. subsidiary has appointed Tom Vecchiolla as chief executive, less than one year after the 15-year defense industry veteran joined its board of directors.
The move took effect on Friday and was announced Monday. Vecchiolla succeeds Shawn Purvis, who previously led QinetiQ US for close to three years.
Purvis’ tenure was marked by QinetiQ US’ acquisition of Avantus Federal in late 2022, a move that doubled the size of the business at that time.
QinetiQ Group PLC, the U.K-headquartered parent company, unveiled the current iteration of its strategy in late 2023 and centers that blueprint primarily around the trilateral security partnership commonly called AUKUS.
AUKUS is set up as a collaborative effort between the Australia, the U.K. and U.S. on sharing best practices in defense with technology a core component of that partnership.
Now as CEO, Vecchiolla will be responsible for the U.S. team’s work to execute QinetiQ’s strategy for growth as AUKUS further takes shape.
The U.S. business represented one-fifth of QinetiQ’s total revenue for the first half of its current fiscal year that ends on March 31. The U.S. business also employs just shy of 1,400 people to make up for 16% of QinetiQ’s global workforce, according to regulatory filings and investor presentations.
Vecchiolla’s private sector career includes roughly three years as president of ST Engineering’s North America subsidiary and 15 years at Raytheon.
