Synergy ECP was itself acquired by a private equity firm back in the fall and eyes this new transaction as adding software development expertise.

Synergy ECP has acquired an intelligence community-focused IT product and service provider as part of a push to further build out a portfolio in cloud engineering and data analytics.

The purchase of SoftTech Solutions also represents an addition of software development expertise in areas such as cybersecurity and signals intelligence. Terms of the transaction announced Tuesday were not disclosed.

For Synergy ECP, this move comes close to five months after it was acquired by private equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners. Synergy ECP was founded in 2007 as a provider of IT services, systems engineering and other solutions to intelligence and defense communities.

SoftTech Solutions opened for business in 2005 and touts one of its core focus areas as including SkillTree, a micro-learning gamification platform used by intelligence agencies to train analysts on new and existing applications.

Falfurrias' founders and partners have raised close to $2 billion across the firm’s four funds since its initial standup in 2006 by Hugh McColl, Marc Oken and Ed McMahan.

The firm primarily gears its backings toward companies who generate between $5 million and $40 million in EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), while the initial investments are a minimum of $25 million and maximum of $200 million.
