NTT Data elevates new public sector leader

Find opportunities — and win them.

This promotion from within coincides with Tim Conway's plan to retire after 12 years at the company.

NTT Data has promoted a new president for its nearly $1 billion public sector group in Christopher Merdon, who currently leads the IT services and consulting company’s state and local government unit.

Merdon will succeed Tim Conway, who will retire from NTT Data after having led public sector for the past 12 years.

This transition announced Monday means Merdon will add responsibility for NTT Data’s work with federal government agencies in the U.S., as well as Canada and Australia.

He joined NTT Data’s public sector group in 2016 and four years later was promoted to president of the state and local government division.

Merdon’s career prior to NTT Data includes leadership roles at the former Affiliated Computer Sciences, JP Morgan and service as chief information officer for the government of Howard County, Maryland.

During Conway’s tenure as group president, NTT Data’s public sector business grew to a $1 billion-annual revenue entity amid a period that included its acquisition of the former Dell Services business in 2016.

NTT Data sought to create a “tier-one systems integration capability in the United States” that could apply its global IT services presence in the federal market, Conway told us in 2019 as part of our Top 100 series.
