Hitachi Vantara Federal’s board of directors has elected an interim CEO in Mark Serway, who steps into the role effective immediately in addition to his other position as chief financial officer.

Serway succeeds David Turner, who resigned from the chief executive post after five years.

The company announced the temporary transition in leadership Monday, adding it plans to work with an executive recruiting firm on the search process that will consider both internal and external candidates.

A nearly three-decade market veteran, Serway joined Hitachi Vantara Federal in 2017 after four years as finance chief at Govplace. He is also a former CFO for Akima.

During Turner’s tenure as CEO, Hitachi Vantara Federal adopted its current branding and structure that combined the operations of three other businesses and acquired the classified business of Singapore-headquartered chipmaker Brocade.
