Huntington Ingalls Industries' new chief human resources officer steps up to that position after previously leading talent functions at one of the shipbuilding segments.

Huntington Ingalls Industries has elevated one of the lead human resources executives at its Ingalls Shipbuilding segment to the role of chief HR officer for the entire corporation.

Edmond Hughes will succeed the retiring William “Bill” Ermatinger as CHRO on April 1, the company said Thursday.

A 16-year company veteran, Hughes currently holds the title of vice p

resident of human resources and administration at Ingalls Shipbuilding. Before he joined HII, Hughes led human resources functions at General Motors and TRW Automotive.

Taking the role formerly held by Hughes at Ingalls is Susan Jacobs, who has been vice president of HR at the Newport News Shipbuilding segment since 2016 and before that was director of HR and administration for nine years at Ingalls.

Prior to Ingalls, Jacobs was senior director of human resources at the former L-3 Communications.
