Battelle appoints Vaughan as contract research lead

Nonprofit science organization Battelle hires two-decade industry veteran Matt Vaughan as president of the contract research organization.

Nonprofit science organization Battelle said Tuesday it has hired two-decade industry veteran and former Leidos executive Matt Vaughan as president of the contract research organization.

He joins the Columbus, Ohio-based organization nearly six months after former DynCorp International CEO Lou Von Thaer was appointed CEO. Von Thaer is also a former executive from Leidos, where he led its national security sector as president.

Vaughan succeeds Steve Kelly, who retired from Battelle on Jan. 2 after a 25-year career there.

At Leidos, Vaughan was a senior vice president in its health business and also held various senior management roles in its integrated systems, surveillance and reconnaissance, and government affairs groups.

Vaughan also spent 13 years at BAE Systems’ U.S. subsidiary in program management and government affairs roles.
