GDIT leads team to upgrade DOD language center infrastructure

Contractor will provide state-of-the-art facilities, including Wi-Fi

General Dynamics Information Technology and five smaller companies will share potentially $96.3 million to provide language-training technology and staffing for the Defense Department.

The five-year Foreign Language Training and Training Support Services indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract calls for the team to assist the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, according to a General Dynamics announcement released Aug. 31.

For its part, General Dynamics IT will provide state-of-the-art language training facilities equipped with Wi-Fi, classrooms and lounge areas in the Washington, D.C., metro area.

The company also will assist with foreign language instruction; curriculum development and documentation; infrastructure support for individual, small-group classes and instructors; and long-distance support and instructor quality control for Mobile Training Teams.

The language center is a multi-service educational and research institution at the Presidio of Monterey, Calif. It is charged with providing culturally based foreign language education, training, evaluation, research and sustainment for active and reserve components, foreign military students, civilian personnel working in the federal government, and various law enforcement agencies.

The other companies on the team are ICA Languages Services, Language Associates, JTG, International Center for Languages and Dictyon.

General Dynamics Corp., of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
