Maximus Inc., Reston, Va., won a three-year contract from the San Diego Unified School District to maximize the district's entitlement of federal Medicaid funds.

Maximus will be paid on a contingency fee basis for the amount of new Medicaid revenue its efforts produce for the district. The firm expects to obtain at least $13 million in additional revenue for San Diego schools over the course of the contract.

San Diego joins nearly 1,400 other school districts across the country using Maximus systems and services to increase their Medicaid revenue levels. The San Diego Unified School District is the eighth largest urban district in the country, with nearly 142,000 students.

Maximus will provide documentation and processing software to the school district to improve fee-for-service billing to Medicaid for health-related services provided through San Diego schools.
