SAIC creates chief climate scientist post

Science Applications International Corp. has named Stephen Ambrose to the newly-created position of chief climate scientist. He will lead SAIC’s climate program to develop related solutions for company customers.

Ambrose comes with a deep background working in science and technology in the federal government. His 40-year career has included roles at NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Interior Department and other private sector entities.

SAIC will leverage his experience to support customers as they deal with the impact of climate change on land, air, sea, wildlife, and humans. The company said Ambrose will work on solutions to measure and address climate challenges and will utilize SAIC capabilities in data science, modeling, artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics.

“Climate change is one of the grand challenges of our time, with government organizations at the forefront of efforts to address the associated issues,” said Bob Genter, president of SAIC's defense and civilian sector. “Stephen brings a wealth of experience and expertise to SAIC as we continue to help our customers rise to this challenge with solutions scaled to meet all levels of climate and disaster risk and adaptation.”

Most recently, Ambrose was a senior advisor and program manager at General Dynamics' IT services business.
