Appgate brings in new federal leader

A cyber company spun out of secure data company Cyxtera almost two years ago has hired a new executive to oversee growth in the federal market.

Ned Miller was named senior vice president and general manager of Appgate’s federal division that concentrates on delivering zero trust offerings to agencies. Miller will directly report to CEO Barry Field, Appgate said Thursday.

Miller’s career prior to AppGate includes roles at cyber and IT giants such as McAfee, Symantec and the former Hewlett-Packard. He also has held roles at startups including Recourse, Foundstone and Secure Elements.

Appgate and Cyxtera continue to work together as strategic partners, whereby Cyxtera integrates Appgate’s products into the overall data center offering.

Cyxtera itself is a carved-out entity. The company was formed in 2017, when a consortium of investors purchased the Lumen Technologies (then CenturyLink) data center and colocation business.
