DISA moves ahead on ethernet gateway awards

The Defense Information Systems Agency awards another portion of its nationwide initiative to upgrade network connections and this award continues a strong run for the winner.
The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded a fifth portion of its nationwide initiative to upgrade the way it connects to the military’s global information network.
Also for a fifth time, Comcast emerges as the winner as DISA moves ahead on making awards for its Commercial Ethernet Gateway program on a regional basis.
DISA said in an award notice Friday that the latest contract for Region 6 has a $75.8 million ceiling value over up to 10 years, including a six-year base period and a pair of two-year options. The agency received three bids for that contract.
This continues the rapid pace at which DISA is making awards for CEG, the agency’s initiative to link to the same networks provided by commercial telecommunications providers so users can access the Department of Defense Information Network.
DISA planned to make awards over the course of the current government fiscal year and has broken the CEG effort out into 12 regions.
Awardees of the regions will work with DISA on installing new ethernet connections across the U.S. to replace legacy circuits. Region 6 covers work in the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The telecom conglomerate also holds the contracts for work in regions covering the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region; New England; and four other states in the Southeastern U.S.
