Maxar hires exec to lead product org

Find opportunities — and win them.

Maxar Technologies brings in a former Amazon and Electronic Arts executive to lead the product organization and roadmap for further development.

Maxar Technologies has hired former Amazon executive and nearly two-decade industry veteran Daniel Nord as senior vice president and chief operating officer, effective May 24.

Nord will lead Maxar’s Earth intelligence product organization with responsibility over a 400-employee group and the roadmap for the offerings themselves and user experience, Maxar said Tuesday.

Those products include both the extensive Earth imagery library and other derivatives related to data and analytics.

“As we continue to develop The Digital Globe, a highly-accurate, 3D, digital twin of the Earth, we see great opportunities to grow product offerings with existing customers and expand into adjacent markets like gaming, augmented reality and autonomous navigation,” Maxar CEO Dan Jablonsky said in a release.

Jeff Culwell, a 22-year Maxar veteran and head of products since 2019, will transition to a new position in the chief technology office that will see him focus on engineering and internal research-and-development programs.

Nord was most recently a general manager in Amazon’s kids and family organization and led its mobile, content and international divisions. He also spent seven years at Electronic Arts as a studio GM and head of product management for mobile and virtual reality.
