Elbit Systems, Anduril detail their latest acquisitions

A pair of acquisitions in the defense technology market were revealed Thursday that sees one business going to a different owner and a second company expanding its portfolio.

Elbit Systems has paid $31 million to acquire the Rokar business from BAE Systems’ U.S. subsidiary.

Formally known as BAE Systems Rokar International Ltd., the business makes GPS receivers and guidance systems for defense applications. Elbit plans to integrate Rokar’s technologies into networked precision fire systems.

That deal comes slightly less than a year after BAE Systems Inc. completed the acquisition of the Collins Aerospace military GPS business from Raytheon Technologies, which had to undertake that divestiture to get regulatory approval for the merger to create it.

Transaction number two announced Thursday came out of Anduril Industries, which acquired air-launched effect product provider Area-I to expand the buyer’s portfolio of unmanned aircraft and opportunities to further develop software-defined capabilities.

Some of those capabilities include mission autonomy and intelligent teaming to help manned and unmanned aircraft fleets work together in a mission.

Area-I was founded in 2009 and focuses on tube-launched and tube-stored aircraft. The business will operate as a subsidiary of Anduril and continue to operate with the current brand.
