State Department previews $4B IT buy

The State Department starts to preview a planned $4 billion IT services contract and is asking industry for feedback on the overall strategy.
The State Department has given industry an initial glimpse at its plans for a potential 10-year, $4 billion contract to acquire IT services for the department’s bureau of information resource management, or IRM.
A request for information posted Monday asks companies who may be interested in the vehicle to give feedback on the department’s proposed acquisition strategy in an effort to further inform it.
Responses to the RFI are due on April 7 and can also include feedback on aspects of the IRM organization’s current technology portfolio.
Between six and 10 awards are being contemplated for this contract currently known as Evolve, which would be the follow-on to the current Vanguard program held by Science Applications International Corp.
Vanguard is currently slated to expire in August of this year. Deltek data indicates a solicitation release for Evolve could happen in June with awards anticipated in September.
Evolve’s functional areas include data center, compute, application, delivery, security and compliance, IT management support and services for storage, network and end user platforms.
