Raytheon grows production of Silent Knight radar system

Special Operations Command has tapped Raytheon to build more Silent Knight radar units for aircraft that need to fly at low altitudes and in multiple types of conditions.
Raytheon has received a $235.6 million contract to continue development of the Silent Knight radar that allows for low-level flying of aircraft at night and in poor visibility.
The contract with Special Operations Command runs through 2025 and the radar equipment will be installed on Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters, MC-130 transports and CV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.
Raytheon has been developing the radar for several years and began initial production in 2019 with a $96 million contract. Testing will continue over the next two years.
Work under the new contract will take place at McKinney, Texas, and Forest, Mississippi, the Defense Department said in its contract digest.
The contract was awarded as a sole-source to Raytheon.
