The initiative is part of the Defense Department’s response to Executive Order 13587 on structural reforms to improve the security of classified networks. The order also mandated how to responsibly share classified information.
DISA wants help developing requirements that will address prevention of insider threats as well as deter, detect , and mitigate threats. The work would include analyzing, reviewing, testing and collecting data on users and user behavioral activities.
The Air Force wants to reduce the risk that unintentional or malicious insiders can pose to the government.
Executive Order 13587 was signed by President Obama in 2011. It lays out a framework on how agencies can address insider threats. The order includes the requirement that agencies assess their compliance with standards and policies that are issued pursuant to the order.
The DISA RFI includes the questions of whether an artificial intelligence platform could be used to detect insider threats.
Responses to the RFI are due June 24.
