CenturyLink books $50B EIS telecom vehicle's first order

CenturyLink has booked the first task order to be awarded under the General Services Administration’s $50 billion “EIS” telecommunications contract vehicle on the heels of becoming the initial carrier with full clearance to work on it.

NASA chose CenturyLink to provide core backbone services to NASA for up to the next next nine-and-a-half years, the company said Monday.

The task order has an $11.4 million ceiling value and saw four carriers bid for the work, according to Federal Procurement Data System information.

As reported Friday by our FCW colleagues, NASA is not the only agency getting ready to announce an initial batch of task order awards under the 15-year Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract for next-generation telecommunications services.

The Education and Justice departments could announce awards later this week, according to FCW. This would follow the receipt of authority-to-operate designations by CenturyLink, Verizon and AT&T in the last two weeks.

CenturyLink was the first carrier to get an ATO that certifies their back-office systems. MetTel, Harris Corp. and CoreTech are approaching 70-percent completion of work toward getting an ATO.
