Calibre picks up Spear

Calibre Systems has acquired fellow government IT services company Spear Inc. to add new cybersecurity and analytics services for federal agencies and business partners.

Terms of deal announced Tuesday were undisclosed.

Herndon, Virginia-based Spear was founded in 2012 and is led by Richard Pineda, who led the former Dell federal services business that also was once Perot Systems. Pineda has been named president of Calibre and president of Spear, which will operate as a subsidiary of Calibre.

Spear has been named to Washington Technology’s Fast 50 list of the fastest-growing small businesses for 2018 and 2017, and won last year’s GovCon Awards “Contractor of the Year” distinction in the up to $25 million category.

Calibre’s last acquisition came two years ago in its deal for Fusion Technology, which provides talent management and instructional systems design services to intelligence agencies.

That was preceded by the 2016 purchase of the bulk of Information Management Consultants’ government business that included health and life sciences and defense and public sector groups. IMC provides health informatics, content management and IT services to federal agencies.
