Peraton hires Coleman as homeland security lead

Peraton said Tuesday it has hired two-decade market veteran John Coleman as president of its homeland security sector in a move slated to take effect March 5.

Coleman will lead the Herndon, Virginia-based technology services contractor’s business with the Homeland Security and State Departments. Peraton’s DHS portfolio includes the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection agencies.

He will also oversee Peraton’s health programs with the Veterans Affairs and Defense departments, plus other agencies.

Homeland security is one of several business organizations Peraton unveiled in early January as part of its new structure. Formerly the Harris Corp. IT business, Peraton has made a series of executive hires including long-time market veteran Stu Shea as CEO since Veritas Capital acquired and renamed the business last year.

In January, Peraton secured its role on a potential five-year, $578.1 million contract with TSA to help maintain and manage security checkpoint equipment at airports. That was a takeaway win from incumbent Leidos, which first won the work in 2013. Leidos protested the contract in October of last year but withdrew it three months later.

Prior to Peraton, Coleman more recently led Omniplex’s international background investigation services business whose clients include intelligence and federal civilian agencies. Before Omniplex he led PAE’s information and mission solutions business whose customers included the Homeland Security and Justice Departments.

He joined PAE upon its acquisition of FCi Federal, where he was vice president of its service center operations division.
