NASA has awarded 16 companies positions on a potential seven-year, $500 million contract to carry out research and engineering services in support of the International Space Station.
The space agency developed the Research, Engineering and Mission Integration Services contract for use in the ISS program but the vehicle can be utilized by other NASA entities or federal agencies. REMIS starts on Sept. 6 for a five-year base period followed by a two-year option, NASA said Wednesday.

Awardees will bid for task orders in areas such as spaceflight and ground hardware and software, sustaining engineering functions, engineering services, payload facility integration, research mission integration and operations services.
The intent of REMIS is to make the services available on a commercial basis with minimal involvement from the government.
