Army selects 7 for $172M munition disposal contract

The Army chooses seven companies for a potential five-year, $172.7 million contract to help locate and remove munitions from former military sites.
The Army has chosen seven companies for a potential five-year, $172.7 million contract to help locate, identify and remove munitions and explosives from former operational sites.
All seven bidders received positions on the contract, the Defense Department said Wednesday. Awardees will bid for orders to help dispose of the weapons along with depleted uranium, waste biological and chemical warfare material.
Awardees are:
- AECOM
- Conti-Usa Environmental joint venture
- Global Environmental and Munition Services
- Janus Global Operations
- Parsons-Versar LLC
- RELYANT Global LLC
- Tetra Tech EC
The work will support the Defense Department's Military Munitions Response Program launched in 2001 to address concerns over unexploded munitions, discarded munitions and other hazardous materials at locations other than operational ranges.
Those locations include sites designated for Base Realignment and Closure and Formerly Used Defense Sites properties, according to the Army.
