VA plans cloud services for 3 more data centers

Find opportunities — and win them.

VA wants to expand cloud services to three more data centers, according to a new solicitation.

The Veteran Affairs Department wants cloud services in three more of its data centers.

The VA released a draft solicitation for a three-year contract for cloud services infrastructure. It includes Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Database as a Service. The VA wants a contractor managed, highly available, redundant, on-premise, private deployment model.

Multiple VA offices have teamed up to establish the VA Enterprise Cloud. The VAEC will consist of a cloud management platform (CMP), a private cloud computing service (VA Private Cloud or VAPC), and one or more VA public cloud environments (VAPCE) provided by cloud service providers.

The data centers are in Austin, Texas, Philadelphia, and Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The contract’s services will include:

  • Design and implementation of the VAPC across three data centers
  • Extending existing service capabilities
  • Architecture, planning, and engineering to integrate the VAPC with VA infrastructure
  • Various support services, such as identity management, change management, and resource management services
  • Hyper-converged infrastructure hardware and software
  • Publication of lessons learned, best practices as guidance for future transitions that the department will conduct.

VA officials will consider any possible set-asides in the request for proposals based on responses to this draft performance work statement, as they determine the availability of service-disabled veteran-owned small business and veteran-owned small businesses.

The VA released the draft solicitation July 18. Responses are due by July 31.
