Harris receives potential $255M Special Operations Command radio contract

Harris Corp. will implement the next Special Operations Command radio system under a potential six-year, $255 million contract.
Harris Corp. has received a potential six-year, $255 million contract to implement a new radio system for Special Operations Command as Socom seeks to replace its two main legacy platforms.
The Special Operations Forces Tactical Communications Next Generation Manpack Radio system is intended to give warfighters a two-channel radio that receives and distributes intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data such as full-motion video.
STC NGMP radios are required to be production ready with National Security Agency and Joint Interoperability Test Command certifications no later than 18 months after contract award date, according to solicitation documents. Socom also requires the radios to support simultaneous dual-channel line of sight and beyond line-of-sight operations via both legacy and advanced waveforms.
Socom will replace its AN/PRC-117F and AN/PRC-117G legacy manpack radios as part of this capital equipment replacement program.
