Lockheed wins $490M contract to expand Aegis fleet

Lockheed Martin has won a $490 million contract to deliver integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) capabilities to destroyers and expand the global Aegis fleet in the United States, Japan and Korea.

The Aegis Combat System can attack land targets, submarines and ships and protect a fleet from aircraft and missiles, according to Lockheed Martin’s website.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will equip the fleet with Aegis Baseline 9, the latest development of the system, which will include the company’s SPY-1 radar and is able to provide missiles for every mission and threat environment, the company said in a release.
