Serco wins $38M contract to upgrade HEMP programs

Serco Inc. has won a $38 million contract to upgrade the High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse Protection of Ballistic Missile Early Warnings Systems for the Air Force. 

High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulses, also called HEMP, can be an indicator of nuclear activity in the atmosphere, according to a report from the Federation of American Scientists. 

Under the five-year contract, Serco will work to further develop the HEMP protection program at the Thule Air Base in Greenland, the company said in a release. 

The company has also conducted HEMP protection upgrades at other Air Force bases, including the Cape Cod Air Force Station and the Clear Air Force Station in Alaska.
