National Library of Medicine seeks search system update

The National Library of Medicine wants to replace its LocatorPlus, an online public access catalog, with a state-of-the-art discovery and delivery system.

NLM intends to purchase web-based discovery and delivery software. It is looking for software hosted by a vendor with the technical expertise, resources, and experience to provide NLM with an industry-leading search platform.

NLM currently searching the market for small businesses that can provide the service.

For the project, a company will host the software that provides a single, modern, and intuitive search platform for NLM’s physical, electronic and digital resources. The software must interoperate with NLM’s Voyager integrated library system to allow users to remain in the search platform for research and traditional functionality, such as requests for physical materials in the NLM’s collections. The software needs an open architecture that NLM can customize and expand in the future.

NLM released the sources sought notice Oct. 21. Responses are due by Oct. 30.
