Defense Research Associates wins $23.5M contract to develop collision warning system

Defense Research Associates has won a $23.5 million contract to help the Air Force build a new collision warning system that uses existing sensors.

Under the contract, Defense Research Associates will commercialize technology it has already created by adding a collision warning capability into fielded aircraft sensor suites.

Initial work will continue the technology maturation of the electro-optical small sense and avoid system, the Defense Department said in a release.

The system was first created as part of a Small Business Innovation Research grant.

Work will be performed in Dayton, Ohio, and is expected to be completed in October 2020.

Defense Research Associates was the only bidder for this contract, the Defense Department said.
