Accused Deltek hacker arrested

The hacker believed to be responsible for breaching Deltek’s network, compromising the login and password information of 80,000 people, has been arrested by the FBI.

A Deltek spokesman reported the arrest, but further details were not available. The FBI and Justice Department declined to comment on the case.

As first reported by FederalNewsRadio, Deltek was hacked on March 13, and on Tuesday, users of the company’s GovWin IQ website were prompted to change user names and passwords.

Around 25,000 people had their credit card information potentially compromised. These individuals have been notified of the incident. The company is offering them membership in TransUnion Monitoring at no charge.

There has been no indication that the information accessed has been misused in anyway, a Deltek spokesman said.

Once they discovered the breach, the company took several steps including contacting the FBI and conducting its own investigation. It also worked with a cybersecurity firm.

Deltek has set up a helpline and an email inbox staffed by senior people at protect@deltek.com

“We are moving quickly and effectively to implement a series of measures to address the situation and minimize the possibility that this happens again,” said company spokesman Patrick Smith. “In response to this specific situation, we have strengthened our login and password processes, our procedures for handling personal information, and our overall cybersecurity profile.”
