Lockheed taps former VA exec as VP, health and life sciences

Lockheed Martin has tapped Horace L. Blackman to be the new vice president of health and life sciences for the company’s Information Systems & Global Solutions business.

Blackman joins Lockheed from the Veterans Affair Department Central Office, where he was the chief information officer and director of information technology support. He also served as senior advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Information Technology and the Undersecretary for Benefits at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Lockheed said in a release.

Before working at the VA, Blackman worked for 20 years working in IT in the private sector.

He will offer perspective to lead efforts to engineering innovative and efficient healthcare solutions for the group’s customers and their missions, said Stephanie Hill, vice president and general manager of the company’s IS&GS civil business.

Blackman holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and English from George Mason University and an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.

He was recently honored as one of FCW’s 2014 Federal 100 winners for his work as VA CIO.
