BLM seeks data management system

The Bureau of Land Management is gathering input from industry on developing a modern system for reporting information on minerals and lands documents.

BLM wants the Minerals and Land Reporting System (MLRS) to be an automated system of business workflows that also stores and retrieves electronic records, images, and metadata on public lands and minerals.

BLM’s current system is the antiquated Legacy Re-host 2000 System, along with the Alaska Land Information System (ALIS). Users also visit a third system called General Land Office (GLO) image database to display images of land and geospatial data.

BLM officials have recognized the need for an enterprise-wide, centralized land records data system, and it needs to take advantage of recent advances in technology and data management. With the new project, MLRS would replace the functionality of LR2000 and ALIS and would interact and display documents from the GLO image database efficiently and effectively.

BLM released its request for information March 12. Responses are due by April 11.
