Who won January's biggest contracts?

The first month of 2014 was a great month for contract awards and hopefully sets the stage for an active year as the market gradually gains some much-needed clarity.

Washington Technology covered 53 contracts in January 2014.

Two companies managed to tie for 4th place, each winning $200 million contracts.

This month also was especially active for Lockheed Martin, who made four appearances in the top 10.

To make the list, you had to have won a contract worth $84 million or above.

The list begins with No. 10:

10. Lockheed wins $84.5M contract to provide cockpit training system

Lockheed Martin has won a $84.5 million contract to provide the Navy with paveway II Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds, or ELGTR.

The company will also provide shipping containers, logistics and product support.

9. Wolf Creek wins $95.3M O&M contract for Pacific facilities

Wolf Creek Federal Services Inc. has won a $95.3 million contract to provide the Navy with operations and maintenance services

The base value of this contract is $13 million.

Under the contract, the company will also provide change of occupancy maintenance services at Naval Base Guam and Andersen Air Force Base, Commander Joint Region Marianas, the Defense Department said in a release.

8. Serco wins $100M contract extension to provide aviation services

Serco has won a $100 million contract with Public Works and Government Services Canada to provide site support services at the 5 Wing Canadian Forces Base in Goose Bay, Canada.

This contract extends a contract that Serco always had with the organization by two years.

Serco will continue to perform the majority of the non-military operation and maintenance functions at this base, which is comprised of two 10,000 foot runways and over 200 buildings, the company said in a release.

7. Lockheed wins $103M eCASS contract to improve aircraft maintenance

Lockheed Martin has won a $103 million contract to provide the Navy with new automated test systems meant to increase aircraft mission readiness.

Under the contract, Lockheed will produce 36 electronic Consolidated Automated Support System stations, or eCASS stations, and associated support equipment.

6. Goodrich wins $183M contract for Saudi Arabian recon system

Goodrich Corp. has won a $183 million contract with the Air Force to setup and install the DB110 Reconnaissance System program for the Royal Saudi Air Force.

The DB110 Reconnaissance System is a digital, real-time, tactical reconnaissance system designed to capture images in day or night, using electro-optical sensor technology, according to its website.

5. Two win radiology contracts with Defense Department

Two contractors have won contracts with the Defense Logistics Agency to provide radiology systems, subsystems and components.

The winners are:

Toshiba America Medical Systems – $187.7 million

Vital Images Inc. – $10 million

Founded in 1875, Toshiba America Medical Systems provides integrated diagnostic solutions through long-term, customer-focused partnerships to improve the quality of life for people, according to its website.

4. Northrop wins $200M to support the Air Force GPS system

Northrop Grumman Guidance and Electronics Company has won a $200 million contract to provide the Air Force with acquisition and sustainment for the Embedded Global Positioning Inertial Navigation System.

The acquisition and sustainment will consist of platform integration, modernization, diminishing manufacturing sources, flight test support, technical support following integration efforts, training, engineering support/studies, contractor depot repair, spares, and data for the standard EGI, the Defense Department said in a release.

4. Mori Associates captures $200M JPL contract

Mori Associates has won a $200 million small business contract to provide the Jet Propulsion Laboratory with IT support services.

The IT Infrastructure Support and Services contract, or I2S2, covers a variety of services including engineering design support, institutional network operations, enterprise information systems development and operations, telecommunications and computer maintenance. 

3. General Dynamics expands sub modernization with $226.7M in contracts

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems has won two contracts totaling $226.7 million to continue modernizing and repairing the training and support equipment for the U.S. and U.K. ballistic missile submarine and SSGN fleets.

Work will help the Navy address obsolescence, reduce overall submarine lifecycle costs and enhance operational capabilities.

2. Lockheed scores $440M extension for National Airspace System support

Lockheed Martin has won a $440 million contract extension to continue supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s National Airspace System.

The original contract, awarded to Lockheed four years ago, is called the NAS Integration Support Contract, and it provides services and integration planning for equipment and infrastructure improvements for NAS modernization.

1. Lockheed wins $449M in contracts for Air Force missile production, logistics

Lockheed Martin has won two contracts totaling $449 million to support the Air Force by continuing to produce Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles and Extended Range variants.

Under the contracts, Lockheed will produce 340 baseline missiles and 100 ER missiles.
