Lockheed taps former GM chairman, CEO as board member

Lockheed Martin has elected Daniel Akerson to its board of directors, effective immediately.

Akerson is the former chairman and CEO of General Motors. Before GM, Akerson served as managing director at the Carlyle Group. He has also held executive positions at XO Communications, Nextel Communications, General Instrument Corp., and MCI Communications.

He is currently director of the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation.
