AECOM to continue Afghan intell support

AECOM awarded a $10 million modification to an Army contract to collect and monitor trends on how local in Afghanistan feel about U.S. troops and policies.

AECOM’s National Security Programs business won a $10 million modification to an Army contract to collect and monitor trends on locals in Afghanistan feel about U.S. troops and policies.

Known as “atmospheric information,” the company gathers, analyzes and disseminates open source information on how Afghan locals feel about U.S. forces, program and policies. AECOM also provides advice and assistance on social, religious, political, economic and tribal matters as well as communication strategies.

AECOM produces open source atmospheric information to support strategic, operational and tactical decision making, the Defense Department said.

According to information from market research firm Centurion Research Solutions, the contract was awarded in 2009 to McNeil Technologies, later acquired by AECOM. The ceiling is $450 million.

Calnet and SOS International also are contract holders, according to Centurion, which recently was acquired by Deltek.

But according to Centurion and Deltek data, AECOM has been the dominate contract on the vehicle with $144 million in task orders so far. Neither Calnet or SOS have broken $100,000 in tasks.
