Post Office allegedly awards $1.3B in non-competitive contracts
The U.S. Postal Service has allegedly made around $1.3 billion worth of purchases without competition over the last few years, and didn't use appropriate documentation for many of the sole-source awards.
According to a recently published inspector general’s audit, over the past few years, the U.S. Postal Service has purchased $1.3 billion worth of services non-competitively, according to Federal Times.
The postal service allegedly spent $210 million without the appropriate documentation that authorizes a sole-sourced approach. Employees were reported to have been unaware of the policy, Federal Times reported.
The post office defended $5.4 million of that spending, saying that it was used for “technology infrastructure” purchases, Federal Times reported.
