Northrop wins support Navy contract for tactical training ranges

Northrop Grumman Technical Services has won a $59.6 million contract modification with the Navy to provide operation and maintenance services for the combined tactical training ranges.

Services will be required at shore sites, land-based test facilities and aboard ships in ports and at sea, the Defense Department said. Tactical training ranges prepare warfighters for their missions and increase combat proficiency. According to a Navy website, these ranges include a variety of subsystems that measure and collect information on the training exercise and can provide live monitoring of tactical scenarios and debriefings.

Work will be performed in Oceana, Va., Yuma, Ariz., Fallon, Nev., Cherry Point, M.C., Key West, Fla., and San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by July 2014.

Funding in the amount of $10.9 million is obligated at the time of the award, and will expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
